It’s oh so quiet ….

News Posted on Tue, May 15, 2018 14:27:56

Now that our First Birthday has been and gone I thought I would talk about one of the things that nobody prepares you for when you say that you are opening a Shop : The days when hardly any customers come in .

Someone told me a while ago that :”You can’t open a shop and expect people to come in “ but if I didn’t expect that I would never have opened one 😊

There is no way of telling by looking outside if your day is going to be busy or quiet , Cromer can be packed but with Tourists who want the Beach , the Amusement Arcade, Chips or Ice Cream etc and aren’t shopping at all and then on other days where it seems awfully quiet outside you can get a couple of customers with a long shopping list .

I am very grateful for my Kindle and /or iPad for the quiet days as there is a limit to how much shelf dusting and stock rearranging you can do and they are a welcome distraction from worrying that you might not get another Customer again 😊😊

oh better go , someone has just walked into the shop 😊…….

Soap

News Posted on Sat, March 03, 2018 11:11:07

We have recently got a new range of soap , it’s from a lovely supplier that we have used since we opened the shop last year and the other products we have had from them have been really successful .

In the past we have purchased whole loaves of soap that we have then cut , bagged and labelled but this new range comes ready packaged in 110g bars 😊

The Olive Oil and the Aloe Vera soaps are both fragrance free so ideal for anyone with super sensitive skin

All the soaps are mild and suitable for everyday use , they are SLS and Paraben Free and all approved by the Vegetarian Society .

There has been a move back to bars of soap since people have wanted to cut their use of plastic bottles in the home , I have found that a bar of soap lasts a lot longer than liquid ones on the hand basins and longer than a bottle of shower gel in the bath or shower .

why not think about giving a bar of soap a try on just one of your hand basins at home and see what you think ? I am looking forward to trying each of the bars we now stock 😊the only tricky thing is deciding which to try first 😊
you can find the whole range in store or on our webshop at :
www.benedictscove.com

we sell them for £3 each and customers who have tried them already have given me very positive feedback 😊

Recycling ! 😊

News Posted on Thu, February 22, 2018 11:19:20

Hi ,

Moving on from the packaging post post yesterday I thought I would talk about a couple of recycling ideas with our stock 😊 our crackle candles come in glass jars that already are made from recycled glass but as you can see in the photo above they come with an attractive cork lid . As all our candles are 100% soy wax it is safe to wash the glass jar in hot soapy water afterwards and use it to store foodstuffs, buttons , mini bath bombs , or anything else you can think of 😊
The “ Flamingo “ candle range pictured above have screw top lids so good for storage, once washed out thoroughly ,but when we were at the Trade Show a couple of weeks ago the guy who was showing these had some of the jars that he’d washed , put some water in and had a few fresh flowers in them – they looked really pretty and a great idea as these jars ,I think , are too pretty to just dump into the recycling bin 😊

Packaging

News Posted on Wed, February 21, 2018 14:13:45

Hi ,
i had a customer earlier who was asking me about the packaging for our bath products , I decided to email one of our main suppliers and got a very prompt reply – this is the beauty of dealing with small family Businesses for our stock 😊and here is the reply I got :
“We have had a lot of questions about this recently, which is great! The public really are becoming more aware of plastics and the environment 🙂

All of our shrink wrap is both recyclable and biodegradable 🙂

All of our plastic tubs and bottles are made from PET (the new shower jelly pots are made from PP) and both are easily recycled through normal household recycling bins 🙂

The balms and face oils are in amber glass which is also recycled through normal household recycling glass bins 🙂

Our bath salts are in kraft paper pouches (recyclable and biodegradable ) and the lining of the pouches is also PET which is recyclable :-)”

On a personal note , The items we pack ourselves in the shop , like bath bombs and hand soaps , are in biodegradable cellophane bags , our candles are either in tins or recyclable glass jars , one of our candles comes in a jar which is made from recycled glass already 😊

I know that this is a subject close to many peoples Hearts at the moment , particularly for us in Cromer as the Sea is such a big part of our lives and the news about plastics in the Oceans that have been in the News recently have been heartbreaking so it is good to get confirmation that our main supplier is doing all they can 😊

Opening Story

News Posted on Fri, February 16, 2018 20:28:33

We are fast approaching the First Birthday of our little shop and are taking our first tentative steps onto the World Wide Web , I have to pinch myself to believe it’s true that at the grand old age of 57 and after spending most of my adult life as a wife and stay at home Mum of 4, I got the chance to open a Gift Shop together with our youngest Son ( Benedict )

Benedict had spent 3 years as a full time volunteer in a local Charity Shop where he thrived but his mild Autism makes him shy at Interviews so we had failed to find him paid employment in retail , it started from there , an idea to just start our own shop and the more we thought about it the more excited I got about the idea 😊
We found our little shop in September 2016 and by January 2017 the legal work was done and we had the keys. In early March the renovations were complete and with the help of a couple of good friends, we moved the stock in ready to open on the 18th March 😊
We wanted to stock as much as we could that is UK made and our bath products are skin kind and animal cruelty free , many are vegetarian society approved .We only sell candles that are 100% soy wax and we are gradually increasing our selection of gifts , we offer made to order gift boxes and have just been to our First Trade Fair at the NEC in Birmingham.

Our website and online shopping facility has been created for us by our lovely Daughter and Benedict’s big Sister ( Melissa ) and as a family we are looking forward to our second year in Business and this Blog is to give me a chance to share the ups and downs we encounter along the way together with reviews of the many products that we sell that I have tried personally 😊
